Calgary Free-mo

Free-form modular railroading

Welcome to Calgary Free-mo!

Calgary Free-mo is a group of HO-scale railway modelers, building modules following the international Free-mo modular standard. Everyone owns their own modules, building whatever industry, scenery and era interests them. We then connect them together to form a large layout - it’s never the same layout twice!

We set up a layout four to six times a year, including public shows such as Supertrain, Railway Days and GETS, as well as private/semi-private set-ups, including our open invite Albert Free-mo set-up, held every August in railway-historic Big Vally, Alberta.

Meetings and Clinics

We hold our regular “business” meetings bi-monthly, the first Thursday of February, April, June, August, October and December, 7:30 p.m. at the Wet Creek Stables (see below). Here we discuss upcoming set-ups, organize group activities and project planning. Visitors are welcome!

The other months, we host various activities, such as modelling or weathering clinics, tree-building sessions, or upgrading/maintaining the group-owned equipment such as our Lindsay Yard.

Attendance at these meetings is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged to share your stories and experience, as we help each other to grow in our modelling skills.
